Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) is designed to help you explore your alcohol and drug use in a supportive and non-shaming environment. BASICS is not an abstinence only program and you will not automatically be told to stop using substances. In BASICS you will get information invited into a discussion about what is right for you so you can get support in considering what is working or how to make changes.

Students will engage in a non-judgmental, self-reflective process and select changes they might want to make in their drinking. Some students are required to attend BASICS sessions if they are referred by Student Integrity & Community Standards, Athletics, or Residence Life for violating the campus drug and alcohol policy.

Referral to Higher Level of Care

Sometimes students who meet with office staff are in need of additional support resources for their substance use.  Professional staff in the Office work closely with other support resources on and off campus.  We will work with a student to decide what resources seem accessible and comfortable.
