Biography
Conductor Katie Gardiner has been leading vocal and instrumental ensembles since 2004 and has had the joy of working with singers ranging from young children to nonagenarians. She completed the doctoraldegree in Choral Conducting at the Jacobs School of Music in June of 2021, serving in positionsas Associate Instructor in Choral Conducting and Music Theory (Fall 2019). Her dissertation, “AConductor’s Guide to the Music of Hildegard von Bingen,” focuses on the editions available forHildegard’s music and provides resources to support an ensemble leader in engaging with thisrepertoire. In addition to leading vocal ensembles, Dr. Gardiner has held professional positions asan orchestral conductor, conducting the Second Winds ensemble at Second Presbyterian Churchin Indianapolis, IN, serving as the Cover Conductor for the Carmel Symphony Orchestra inCarmel, Indiana, and conducting the Saratoga Youth Symphony in Saratoga Springs, NY. Prior toarriving in Indiana, Dr. Gardiner served on the music faculty at Skidmore College where she heldthe position of Choral Director and Lecturer in Music from 2011-2018, conducting the SkidmoreCommunity Chorus, Vocal Chamber Ensemble and teaching Music Theory and private lessons inmusicianship and voice. She has additionally served as Visiting Choral Director at WilliamsCollege and the University at Albany, and conducted state and regional choral and orchestralfestivals. As a passionate music educator, Dr. Gardiner also holds bachelor's and master’sdegrees in Music Education (vocal emphasis and pedagogy emphasis) from the Hartt School ofMusic and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music.At 17Թ, Dr. Gardiner will be directing the College Choir and Chamber Singers for the2022-2023 academic year.
