Many 17³Ô¹ÏÍø music majors go on to graduate programs and careers in music while others use their liberal arts education, and perhaps a second major, to enter a career path outside of music.Â
Recent alumni are teaching at Bucknell University, Skidmore College, Penn State University, University of Delaware, University of Massachusetts, and 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. Others have pursued careers in performance, the music industry, concert management, secondary-school music education, music therapy, and music librarianship.
Our alumni have earned advanced degrees from Harvard University, Princeton University, Cornell University, Boston University, Cambridge University, New York University, the New England Conservatory, the Boston Conservatory, Oberlin College, The Juilliard School, and others.
17³Ô¹ÏÍø music majors have received Beinecke Scholarships, Watson Fellowships, University Fellowships, Gates Cambridge Fellowships, and Fulbright Scholarships. Three graduates from the class of 2013 received Fulbright awards to teach, study or conduct research in Indonesia, Turkey, England, South Korea, and the Philippines. Since 2012, six music majors have received Mellon Fellowships to pursue independent summer research projects.
Music majors who have opted not to pursue careers in music are working as physicians, nurse practitioners, lawyers, teachers, financial analysts, physical therapists, marketing executives, and in many more professions.

2023 | Mia Beviglia is the Assistant Director of the J.D. Power Center for Liberal Arts in the World at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. D. Anthony Cash is clerking for the Strategic Litigation Unit in the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office. He helps the attorneys challenge federal administrative rules and defend state policies from constitutional suits. Fal 2024l, he will enter his second year of law school at George Mason’s Antonin Scalia Law School. |
2022 | Nicholas Rockwood will be entering a Masters Program for a MM in Music Education at the university of Lowell, Massachusetts. Aidan Scamby will be joining the US Navy as a Nuclear Engineer. He is in the process of applying for the officer position but is confirmed for enlisted Navy Nuke. After the military he will go into the private sector in the Nuclear field. Matthew Luca will be attending the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, working for a masters in Organ Performance and Sacred Music. Yuhai (Daniel) Ni will be pursuing a Master of Social Work at NYU and its Shanghai campus. Sadie O’Conor will be entering a Master of Music in Voice at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. |
2021 | Elizabeth Griffin will start work at a law firm following graduation. Elizabeth Mazzocco will be working as a tax accountant at Ernst & Young, Boston MA. Meghan O'Keefe received a fellowship to teach at the Nativity School in Worcester and will also be getting her MBA at Assumption University in Worcester, MA. |
2020 | Elena Wang will be starting her PhD program in Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering at Michigan State University as an Engineering Distinguished Scholar. Her research lies in the intersection of Topological Data Analysis, computer graphics, and machine learning. |
2019 | Lauren Carey served with the Jesuit Volunteer Corp from August 2019-July 2020, during which she taught first graders math, literacy and music, tutored high schoolers, and taught piano lessons. She has also joined a Boston-based a cappella group to continue singing. Lauren will be starting a new position in the Graduate Support Program at Grace Academy in Hartford, CT, an all-girls middle school, where she will be helping students with the transition to high school and will help run a mentoring program for the students. James Falconer is currently teaching high school and middle school at Hebron Academy in Hebron, Maine, where he teaches mathematics and music, directs choir and a cappella ensembles, coaches basketball and more. He aims to work at Hebron for a few years getting plenty of teaching experience before pursuing further educational opportunities. Lorraine L. Mihaliak and Organ Scholar, is pursuing a Masters of Sacred Music in choral conducting at the University of Notre Dame. Through the lens of Christian liturgy and theology, Lorraine enjoys studying music performance and practice while exploring the pastoral aspect of church musicianship through her assistantships with local parish music programs, the Notre Dame Folk Choir at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the Notre Dame Children’s Choir. When not at school, Lorraine assists as Organ Scholar at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in her home state, Connecticut. Teresa Murphy is in the second year of her Masters in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at Arizona State University. She is a co-leader of Arizona Women’s Collaborative, an organization of womxn who collaborate across artistic disciplines to create new works of music, theater, and dance. She plans to graduate from ASU in May 2021. Karen Xu is a second year student at Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center, working towards a Masters of Entertainment technology. She is graduating in May, hoping to work as a producer in the creative entertainment industry. |
2018 | Julia Palmerino is attending Boston College Law School in the fall of 2020 to pursue her JD. She hopes to work as a public interest or government attorney in the future. Michael Shun completed his Masters in Music Composition at the University of New Hampshire. His thesis consisted of a symphony for winds, percussion, and voices that was performed by the UNH Wind Symphony and Chamber Singers in February. Currently, Michael is living in New Hampshire as an adjunct lecturer at the University teaching music theory. |
2016 | Meaghan McGeary is in her 5th year of Yale’s biological and biomedical sciences PhD program. The fellowship she is in is called an NCI F99/K00 pre-postdoctoral transition award. She is studying immune responses to melanoma. Jill Michelhaugh is spending this year in Pamlona, Spain, teaching English through the Meddeas program to high school girls, and is a member of the Sinfonietta Académica, which is Pamplona's academic orchestra.
