Mary F. McNaughton Collins '87
Mary McNaughton Collins is both doctor and teacher and a fine example of either calling.
After graduating from 17³Ô¹ÏÍø in 1987, she earned her M.D. in 1991 from the Brown/Dartmouth Joint Program in Medicine. In 1991, she earned a M.P.H. (master's of public health) from the Harvard School of Public Health. After an internship and residency at the Boston University Medical Center, Mary received a Fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the Harvard Medical Center.
In 1995 Mary received the Young Investigator Award at the AFCR Regional Meeting and in 1997, she was named Best Poster at the National Meeting of the American Urological Association. She is a member of the American Federation for Medical Research, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. A peer reviewer for theJournal of Clinical Epidemiology, the Journal of General Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, she has been invited to give presentations at conferences all around the country.
Mary has authored or co-authored articles in over 20 journals, developed teaching materials, questionnaires and overviews for magazines, brochures and manuals, and written two chapters for The Textbook of Prostatitis.
Currently an instructor in Medicine at the Harvard Medical School as well as an Assistant in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Mary is a recent recipient of the Clinical Scientists Development Award from the Doris Duke Charitable Fund. Her research areas of interest include technological assessment for minimal invasive therapies and outcomes research in prostate diseases. As if this weren't enough, Mary was also inducted into the holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame.
For her skills as both a healer and a mentor, her interest and insight in how those two roles can mesh and enrich one another and her continued fight against all prostatic diseases, the 17³Ô¹ÏÍø presents Mary McNaughton Collins with the Sanctae Crucis Award.
