Liturgical Music

Music is an integral part of all weekend Masses, feast day liturgies, and special liturgical celebrations at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. The role of music ministers is primarily to lead and foster the sung prayer of the entire assembly at worship.

The Chapel Choir

The Chapel Choir facilitates the musical prayer at the Sunday 7 p.m. Mass and combines with other liturgical music ensembles for major liturgies on campus. The music of this ensemble is ever changing, but strives to be relevant to the community it serves. Music will primarily be vibrant and energetic as well as being contemplative and draws on a variety of musical styles. Singers of all vocal ranges are welcome. Accompanying instruments include guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, percussion, and others. Rehearsals are held weekly in the Mary Chapel. For more information, contact Laurence Rosania 

Cantors

Cantors lead the musical prayer at the Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass and at holyday liturgies. Cantors also serve at the Sunday 7 and 9 p.m. Masses. Training and rehearsals will be scheduled throughout the academic year. For more information, contact Laurence Rosania

Schola Cantorum

The Schola Cantorum and the Taylor and Boody pipe organ lead the music at the Sunday 11:30 a.m. Mass. The Schola's repertoire includes works from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. Some previous musical training and choral experience are necessary as the Schola sings music from Gregorian chant to eight-part motets; sopranos, altos, countertenors, tenors, and basses are all needed. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings 10-11:15 a.m. immediately before the 11:30 a.m. Mass; special rehearsals are arranged when a large work must be prepared. For more information, contact the the department of music at 508-793-2296 or aresker@holycross.edu.

The Spanish Choir

The Spanish Choir primarily leads the musical prayer at the Thursday 9 p.m. Mass which is offered in Spanish. The choir also combines with other liturgical music ensembles for major liturgies on campus. The music of this ensemble reflects a broad spectrum of repertoire from various Latin American cultures. Rehearsals are held at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Mary Chapel throughout the academic year. For more information, contact Laurence Rosania
