Insurance, Accidents and Claims

Insurance

The Department of Risk Management and Contracts is responsible for identifying potential risks and arranging appropriate insurance coverage to protect the College, its students, employees, and the community. The College works closely with insurance brokers and underwriters to make informed insurance decisions that protect against losses that could have a negative financial and operational impact.

Certificates of Insurance

A certificate of insurance or (COI) is a standardized insurance form that is issued by an insurance/broker agency and provides verification of the types and limits of insurance that an organization has in place. In order to protect the interests of the College, all Contractors, Subcontractors, Vendors, Lessees, and other persons or organizations who use or provide service to the College, must provide proof of insurance in the form of a COI based on the following guidelines.

If you need a certificate of insurance, please send an email with a copy of the contract, event date and any other requirements to eanderson@holycross.edu  These requests are remitted to our agents for handling and can take time to process.

Please note that the listed guidelines may vary depending on the particular activity, event, or terms of the contract.

The Department of Risk Management and Contracts collects and maintains an electronic file for all certificates of insurance for the College. If emailing, please send to RiskManagement@Holycross.edu.

If you have any questions, please contact Denielle Burl at 508-793-2339 or email at dburl@holycross.edu.

Faculty/Staff Personal Property

The College does not assume any responsibility or liability for any loss of, or damage to, personal property that employees or faculty may bring onto campus. The sole exception is in those cases where the Department of Risk Management can affirmatively establish that the College or a College representative is at fault.  Personal property is brought onto campus for the convenience of the employee, and at the employee’s own risk. Under no circumstances will the College be responsible for any loss of art, rare or irreplaceable books, manuscripts, antiques, jewelry, cash, securities, valuable papers such as deeds, furs, items that have only personal value, or other unique items.

This includes accidental loss including without restriction, water damage, fire, smoke, or theft. Employees are strongly urged to check with their personal insurance agent to secure coverage and determine appropriate limits.
